Clean Internet Files in I.E. 8.0  

Disk Clean Up   Disk Defragmenter

      

These steps must be done in this sequence to be effective.

 

Cleaning Internet Files in Internet Explorer 8.0

The following will delete Internet Temporary Files, History and Cookies from your computer.

  1. Go to Internet Explorer

  1. Go to Tools > Internet Options

Click Image for example:  MaintIE8_1.jpg (71217 bytes)

  1. Click Delete button

  1. Put a Check in all boxes and then click Delete

  1. Click OK to exit

Disk Clean Up

Your computer like your desk can get overrun with a lot of clutter that you cannot easily see or remove manually.  Occasionally you need to clean out your hard drive just as you would do with your desk.  It is a quick and easy process that will free up some valuable hard drive space.

  1. Left-click on the Start Button

  2. For XP: Go to Programs, then Accessories, then System tools, then finally click on Disk Cleanup.  

NoteYou might have to click the 2 downward facing arrows when you go to Programs to get to the sub-menus.

  1. For Vista: Click Start, then type Disk, then click on Disk Cleanup under Programs

  1. For Windows 7: Click Start, then type Disk, then click on Disk Cleanup under Programs

  1. Click Files from all users on this computer

  1. Click Continue at the security warning

  1. Verify main drive is selected and click OK

  1. Click Yes

Disk Defragmenter  

  1. Left-click on the Start Button at the bottom left of screen.

  1. For XP: Go to Programs, then Accessories, then System tools, then finally click on Disk Defragmenter.

  1. For Vista: Click Start, then type Defrag, then click on Disk Defragmenter under Programs

  1. For Windows 7: Click Start, then type Defrag or Disk, then click on Disk Defragmenter under Programs

  1. From the list of drives, choose Drive C: and Click Defragment.

  1. For optimal performance, perform defragmentation 1 to 3 times in a row.

Note: If you have multiple hard drives on your computer you will need to defragment them one at a time.

 

These steps should be done at least once a week, you will see a big difference in how your computer operates...it will be more enjoyable to use.
